Play On Instrument Drive Passes $10K Milestone as Student Volunteers Begin Preparing Instruments for Gulf Coast Children WESTLAKE...The Play On Instrument Drive, sponsored by Skyline Music to benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, has already collected used instruments valued at over $10,000.00 that will be sent to Gulf Coast band and orchestra students affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Instruments have arrived from all over Northeast Ohio and as far away as Washington D.C., thanks to media coverage and grass roots networking since the drive’s kickoff Thanksgiving weekend. On January 25, student volunteers from several area high schools met at Skyline Music to begin cleaning the instruments to prepare for repairs and adjustments that Skyline Music will donate to the cause. The finished instruments will be stocked with accessories provided by industry manufacturers and delivered to schools in the Gulf Coast region that have applied to and qualified for aid from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The Play On Instrument Drive continues through February 25th, concluding with a Mardi Gras celebration at the store. Donors can drop off band or orchestra instruments at either Skyline Music, 27010 Center Ridge Rd. in Westlake or at Caruso’s Small World Day Care Center, 918 Youngstown-Warren Road, on Route 422 in Niles. Volunteers are also ready to pick up donations if needed. To donate or to get more information about Play On, please call Skyline Music at (440) 871-4140 or visit www.playonmusic.org.
