Instrument Preparation
The process of refurbishing instruments for distribution to The Mr. Holland's Opus beneficiaries requires a large amount of labor. While the Skyline Music Repair Staff and Violin maker Peter Horn will do the bulk of the skilled work of setup and regulation, there's plenty of room for helping hands to aid in cleaning, dissasembly, restringing, and other tasks that can be easily learned by volunteers. It's also a good opportunity for someone interested in instrument repair to learn some basic skills.
Frankly, some volunteers will be a bit put off by what we delicately term the "spit factor" of wind instruments. (We tell new trainees it's like an instrumental MASH unit.) Don't worry if you're somewhat fastidious. There are still violins to work on! You can leave your Hazmat suit at home.

If you're interested in volunteering, contact the store directly or use the email address below to inquire. Barbara Sanderson, our Volunteer Coordinator, will be in touch to get more information about your interests and availability. (Please give us both an email and a phone contact if possible.)
Most volunteers are needed from January 1 through February 25, although some help may be needed any time after Thanksgiving.

Donor Contact
All donors need to be called with appraisal amounts for a final approval of the donation, and some donors (particularly in the winter) may ask for a pickup of their donation. We'll need some team members to cover these tasks as well.
Clerical Help
All instruments will need to be documented from donation through refurbishing, appraisal, confirmation, and shipping to the beneficiary school. Shannon Williams will oversee the process, but extra hands will be needed for data entry and processing.
